Oral Hearing for the Dublin Waste to Energy Project

Day 1: Thursday 19th April

The oral hearing for the Dublin Waste to Energy Project began at 11:00am today in the Hogan Suite of the Conference Centre at Croke Park. An Bord Pleanala’s Inspector, Mr. Padraig Thornton began proceedings by explaining the plan of events for the hearing. The hearing is planned to run from 10:00 - 1300 and 14:15 - 17:30 from today, Thursday 19th until the following Thursday. Mr. Thornton also hopes to hold the hearing on Tuesday evening next week from 18:00 - 21:00 to facilitate those who cannot attend during the daytime. Any changes to the planned schedule for the hearing will be posted on this site as soon as it is known.

In accordance with the schedule set out by the Inspector, the afternoon session began with the first two expert witnesses being called by Dublin City Council to present their evidence. John Murphy from the Planning Department of Dublin City Council spoke first about the Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) for the land the proposed Waste to Energy plant will be built on. The second expert to give evidence was Bernard McHugh of RPS Planning and Environment. Mr. McHugh was giving evidence on the Planning and Sustainable Development issues that concern the project. Both witnesses have yet to be cross examined by members of the public.
