Five million milestone for Dublin Waste to Energy

In December 2025, Dublin Waste to Energy reached a remarkable milestone with five million tonnes of residual waste received since the plant commenced operations in 2017.

During that time, the facility has exported almost 3.8TWh of mostly renewable electricity to the national grid, enough electricity for almost 140,000 homes per annum.

Congratulations to both the Dublin Waste to Energy (DWTE) and Encyclis teams on reaching this significant milestone.

DWTE Project Director Kieran Mullins paid tribute to the people who helped make it happen. “Thank you all for your dedication, hard work, commitment and the safe operation of the plant since we commenced in 2017,” he said.

“To put in perspective the volume of 5 million tonnes of waste it is equivalent to approximately six times the volume of the Great Pyramid of Giza.”
